Population Connection (formerly known as Zero Population Growth) is the preeminent progressive grassroots group for population education and advocacy, with more than 500,000 members and supporters, including 50,000 participating educators. They focus on achieving global population stabilization through universal awareness and access to voluntary family planning together with the full empowerment of women.

In their give-and-take sessions they emphasize the connections between human population growth and social justice, environmental issues, and women’s rights. With world population now over 7 billion, the impact of rapid population growth on people and the planet has never been more compelling.

Please also take note of Wildflower Church's next WildEarth Climate Action Team meeting: Friday, January 22nd, 7 p.m.  We intend to move future meetings to Thursdays, but in January we will meet Friday to avoid conflict with the class series, "Articulating our Faith." SAVING OURSELVES FROM OURSELVES, AND CLIMATE ORGANIZING, FRIDAY OCTOBER 9, 7 PM

The WILDEARTH CLIMATE ACTION TEAM  will have our regular second-Friday meeting on Friday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room.  Mike Ignatowski will start us off with a summary of and some discussion time for an article, “This is the Year Humans Finally Got Serious About Saving Themselves From Themselves.”

We will also have guests: Kirsten Johansson and Josh Wallis, lead organizers for the Global Climate March in Austin on November 29th, and also Matthew Chovanec, lead organizer for the Peoples Climate Movement Day of Action on October 14th.   We will explore with them the possible support from us and interconnections that we might help them make with other groups in Austin.  Events like this are being organized internationally in the lead-up to the U.N. Conference on Climate Change in Paris in December.  After introducing these guests and their projects, those who do not wish to remain for the nuts-and-bolts organizing may leave or (as often happens) head out to Opal Divine's restaurant and bar at 3601 South Congress (map at http://www.opaldivines.com/penn-field/index.html).

Future event:  (This remains tentative until confirmed)—the four of us who have been assembling a talk on climate change (with the emphasis on hopeful tipping points), have reset our target date for our first presentation to Friday, October 16, 7:00 pm, in the Community Room.
